There is almost nothing left of what was the facade of the Nakshaiyana small grocery store in the center of Liancourt (Oise), this Tuesday, September 17, 2024 in the morning.
This food store, which opened just a few months ago, caught fire last night, around 1 a.m.
A failed burglary?
According to initial information, the police are leaning towards attempted car burglary which would have failed.
The perpetrator(s), after several unsuccessful attempts to enter the business located on rue Pasteur, then set fire to the car which they used to force entry. A vehicle stolen a few hours earlier in a town near Beauvais. They then fled before help arrived.
Firefighters arrived in large numbers in front of the store last night to contain the flames. An employee, who was affected by the smoke, was then evacuated.
Repeated incivility in this street
According to the mayor, Laëtitia Coquelle, a “before and after” has been observed since the establishment of this business on this street.
“The arrival of this grocery store coincided with a change in the life of this neighborhood. There was more waste in the street, especially bottles of alcohol. We were also regularly arrested for nighttime noise,” the elected official tellsOise News.
The presence of video surveillance cameras in this street could help advance the investigation.
