In the defendants’ box, a 39-year-old man who denies having punched a young man in his twenties on the night of July 28 to 29 in Beaucaire, he is taking the requisitions.
At the beginning, it was a festive evening between people who knew each other that ended in tragedy. The thirty-year-old allegedly hit the youngest person on the trip with a ring. The latter was very seriously injured in the eye. An offense initially qualified as violence followed by incapacity for more than 8 days in a repeat offense that was requalified this Tuesday morning, as violence resulting in permanent disability and in a repeat offense. Because the injured person lost the total use of his eye, the perpetrator risks 20 years.
The prosecutor was unapologetic for this very tense defendant in court, who regularly interrupts the court. He denies the facts. The prosecutor believes in his guilt and asks for 12 years, two-thirds of which are a security sentence.
“We are on a criminal sentence in immediate appearance hearing. There was no investigation that would have allowed us to see the responsibility of each person”says lawyer Abdelghani Merah, who must also manage the defendants in the dock.
The victim is sitting quietly in the courtroom, represented by the president of the bar, Aoudia.
The attacker was sentenced to 12 years in prison, but no minimum sentence was imposed on him.
