Monday, September 16, 2024, Jean-Marc Vercherehas handed in his resignation from his mandate as mayor of Angers to Philippe Chopin, Prefect of Maine-et-Loirewho accepted it.
This resignation only concerns his mandate as mayor, Jean-Marc Verchère remains President of Angers Loire Métropole And city councilor from the town hall of Angers.
After serving as deputy, he becomes mayor of Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loirefrom 1989 to 2008. In 1996, he became president of the Loire-Authion Community of Communes, until 2008. In 2007, he became Deputy Director General of the agglomeration.
First Deputy Mayor of Angers Since 2014, Jean-Marc Verchère has become mayor of Angers when Christophe Béchu is appointed ministerA graduate of the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon and a technical engineer by trade in the city of Angers, Jean-Marc Verchère has held various management positions within municipal services since 1976.
It is with a sense of duty accomplished, but not without emotion, that I handed in this morning the resignation of my mandate as Mayor of Angers to the Prefect of Maine-et-Loire. During my two years as Mayor, I have endeavored to pursue the policy initiated by our team, with the sole objective of continuing the transformation and beautification of the City and the service of its inhabitants. I am certain that our City will continue its extraordinary evolution, under the authority of Christophe Béchu.
The return of Christophe Béchu
Christophe Béchuresigned minister of the Ecological transition (Horizons) should return to his mayoral seat that he left in May 2022. A position he held for ten years before handing over to his first deputy.
An extraordinary municipal council will be held on Monday, September 23 at 6 p.m., in the council chamber at Angers City Hall, in order to proceed with the election of the new mayor.
