Diouf will miss Villefranche Beaujolais and Concarneau rekindles a painful memory.

Olympic

Diouf suspended in Villefranche Beaujolais. The Concarneau evening was difficult on many levels for the Nîmes team, particularly in the discipline sector. While in this area, the Crocodiles fared better than the Thoniers (who inherited six yellows and two reds), they nonetheless received four yellow cards. It was the first time for Aboubakar Ali and Namakoro Diallo (which earned him a half-time replacement by Hamza Sbaï). On the other hand, Vincent Marcel is a repeat offender since it had already happened to him in (3rd matchday). With two yellow cards, the midfielder joins Salim Akkal on the list of players under threat of suspension. Finally, it was one too many for Waly Diouf. The central defender has been cautioned every time he has played this season (Orléans, Châteauroux and Concarneau). Therefore, he will be able to play against on Friday, but he will be suspended for the trip to Villefranche Beaujolais on the occasion of the seventh day of National (September 27).

A bitter memory. “These are things that happen once or twice a season and tonight, we are the victims.”. Although disappointed, Adil Hermach pointed out that Nîmes Olympique is not the only team to experience a “nightmare scenario”. Losing to a team with a numerical inferiority is painful and if in football, we move on very quickly to another match, such a mishap settles in the memories for a long time. The shipwreck of Concarneau brings back from the past, another bitter failure. It is August 2003 and Didier Ollé-Nicolle’s Crocodiles travel to Romorantin for the fourth day of National. Pretenders for promotion to Ligue 2, the Nîmes team misses (once again) their start to the championship. In Sologne, the recovery match turns into a Bérézina. At the Jules-Ladoumègue stadium, the NO loses 3-0 while Romorantin plays with 10 men since the… 6th minute. That’s 84 minutes in numerical superiority and a resounding spanking. For the record, the Romorantin goals were scored by Tarek Bouabdellah (60th), Philippe Souchard (90th+1) and a certain Stéphane Beyrac (29th) who signed for Nîmes Olympique the following season. In the Sologne ranks, we also find defender Abdoulaye Coulibaly who became a Crocodile, but three years later (2007-08). At the end of the season, Nîmes remained in National, but missed its objective of reaching L2. For the record, during this sad evening of Romorantin, the Nîmes team was as follows: Grau – Cirilli (Sidibé, 46th), Yao, Massolin, Weber – Assous, Vannuchi (cap) (Cohade, 7th), Horjak (Boulebda, 46th) – Bourgeois, Chaveriat, Mangione. Coach: Didier Ollé-Nicole.
