Statues of the 10 golden women from the opening ceremony on display at the National Assembly

One of the highlights of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was the appearance of the statues of ten women, feminists and activists, to the sound of the Marseillaise, in the painting “Sisterhood“These monumental, gilded sculptures, which represent female personalities from the world of literature, sport, politics and the arts, emerged from large plinths installed in the Seine, near the Pont Alexandre-III.

Olympe de Gouges, Alice Milliat, Gisèle Halimi, Simone de Beauvoir, Paulette Nardal, Jeanne Barret, Louise Michel, Christine de Pizan, Alice Guy and Simone Veil were thus honored in a vibrant tribute to the emancipation of womenIn Paris, the statues are mostly of men, with 260 male figures compared to 40 womenaccording to the Games Organizing Committee.

Discussions are underway to have these sculptures four meters high join the public space permanently, Anne Hidalgo wishing to keep them, like the rings and the basin, to install them along rue de La Chapelle in the 18th arrondissement. In the meantime, it is theNational Assembly who will welcome them, in the Cour d’honneur, of September 23 to October 5, 2024 !

This temporary exhibition, open for free to the general public, will allow you to admire these polymer resin sculptures, made by 3D printing and designed to withstand bad weather, by registering in advance on the National Assembly website. They will remain there until February, visible during visits to the monument, while waiting for a more permanent location in the future.
