22 people were arrested during a new night of riots in , where around forty vehicles were set on fire.

News riot night in Strasbourg. Violence erupted again on Friday evening, following incidents that had already taken place in the afternoon. 22 people were arrested in the evening, learned BFM Alsace from the police.

Many fire starts have been observed and taken care of by the firefighters, in particular on garbage cans or cars. In total, 52 vehicles and around thirty garbage cans were burned in the Bas-Rhin, almost all of which in Strasbourg, indicates the prefecture in its latest report.

An Apple Store looted in the afternoon

In the afternoon, violence had already broken out in Strasbourg, where an Apple Store had been looted in the middle of the afternoon. The Les Halles shopping center, near the big island, had been cordoned off for fear of damage. Many individuals then gathered on Place Kléber.

“They broke two of the windows, and we saw gangs of young people coming in, going out, going in, going out trying to rob showrooms,” a shopkeeper who witnessed the scene told AFP.

The police then intervened at the vandalized Apple Store, while other stores in the vicinity preferred to lower their metal curtains.

The municipality condemns this violence

A total of 33 people were arrested. The Bas-Rhin prefecture and the mayor of Strasbourg both strongly condemned the violence.

“At the start of the evening, I am counting on each and everyone to carry a message of appeasement and cohesion throughout the city,” Jeanne Barseghian then called on Twitter.

For its part, the prefecture had decided to ban any demonstration in the city center of Strasbourg until this Saturday morning. In a press release, she “calls for parental responsibility, given the young age of those arrested”.

21 arrests in the Haut-Rhin

The Eurometropolis had already experienced an evening marked by violence in the night from Thursday to Friday, with 72 vehicles burned in Strasbourg. People had also entered the town hall of the Neuhof district at night to degrade the premises and steal computer equipment.

In the Haut-Rhin, violence had also been observed in and . A curfew had notably been introduced for minors, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., from Friday evening.

New violence still broke out this Friday evening, with 18 vehicles and 19 trash cans burned in the department. At least three schools suffered damage.

In Mulhouse, a municipal police garage door was targeted by a Molotov cocktail. The security forces were also targeted by mortar fire. A total of 21 people were arrested.
