This Monday, more than 1,000 taxis are expected in the Part-Dieu district.
An important mobilization because the profession is angry. And his fury is directed against the Metropolis of Lyon.
It is therefore in front of the headquarters of the rue du Lac community that the vehicles must converge this Monday at 10 a.m. to denounce the desire of environmentalists to increase the number of licenses. Elected officials rely on the fact that since 2012, there has been no significant increase. While at the same time, the number of inhabitants and tourists has increased.
But taxis retort that they are already struggling to work today, in particular because of competition from Uber and VTCs, or even the democratization of telework. And that the situation will worsen if the Metropolis distributes new licenses. They also deplore that they were not consulted on the issue, and that no study was carried out to arrive at these assertions.
To harangue the profession, some unions have announced that the community would release around a thousand documents. This prompted Bruno Bernard’s teams to formally deny it, and rather speak of around fifty licenses soon to be created.
“In this context, the Metropolis of Lyon can only deplore the untruths and the violence of the writings disseminated by certain representatives of the profession. It will not allow itself to be intimidated and invites everyone to come and express themselves serenely during the meeting on July 5 next”it was stated in a press release.
An outstretched hand that will not be seized, taxis intend to make their arguments heard before even starting a discussion.
In the corridors of the Metropolis, we point the finger at interlocutors especially concerned with preserving the high value of their plates, which would fall in the event of the distribution of new licenses.
