The event, dubbed the “Faith, Fire, Freedom Rally,” which was organized by Harvest Ministries International, a promoter based in Kelowna, British Columbia, was expected to bring together 1,000 people a day, Radio-Canada revealed on Friday.
During a press scrum at the National Assembly, the Minister of Tourism, Caroline Proulx, said that her cabinet intervened to demand its cancellation as soon as she heard about it.
“As soon as we were informed of the situation, I asked that we pull the plugsummed up Minister Proulx to the parliamentary press.
“We are a resolutely pro-choice government. So you have to be consistent. I thank Caroline for her vigilance on this and also for her promptness to act,” commented, alongside her, the Minister responsible for the Status of Women, Martine Biron.
“It came to our knowledge that there was an organization that wanted to hold a pro-life event. We are not in this dynamic and […] since the beginning of the term, I have tried to protect the right of women to choose abortion,” added Ms.me Biron.

A matter of judgement, says Legault
“Look, there is also a question of judgment. We will not allow anti-abortion groups to be able to put on big shows in public bodies,” commented Prime Minister François Legault.
The cancellation of this event results in a loss of approximately $60,000 at the Center des congrès de Québec. Minister Proulx took the opportunity to send a clear signal to the CEO of the Center des congrès de Québec, as well as those of the Palais des congrès de Montréal and the Olympic Park.
“Because it is against the fundamental principles of Quebec […] this type of event will not take place here. And I advised the CEO this morning that there will be no support for the company which has to relocate. She’ll have to do it on her own.”
