The two records are mainly due to a recent change in format, since the women’s time trial has only been run since January 1 over one kilometer, compared to 500 meters before. In individual pursuit, the ladies now cover 4 kilometers rather than 3.

It was in qualifying that Vanhove clocked 1:07.287, beating the previous best time held by Frenchwoman Marie-Divine Kouamé. “It’s incredible,” reacted the 21-year-old cyclist, “even if the record won’t hold for long with the European Championships in three weeks.”
