Today, it is almost unimaginable that for decades our authorities brought children from all parts of the world to Switzerland without thorough examination, in the firm belief that they were doing something right, writes the “NZZ am Sonntag”. Yet often the opposite happened: it was not the children who were saved, whether from Ethiopia or Bangladesh, “but their adoptive parents who fulfilled their desire to child and who did not always want to look closely at how their happiness had come about.
