After Éowyn in the north of the country, another storm arrives on Sunday January 26 from the west coast: storm Herminia, coming from the Atlantic Ocean. It will first affect the southwest with strong gusts and thunderstorms, then the entire western coast of the country before causing significant waves off the coast of Brittany.
-Risk of submersion and wind gusts of up to 120 km/h. From Sunday January 26, storm Herminia could cause damage to the west of France. If thunderstorms are expected to begin in the morning, particularly on the Iberian Peninsula and in the southwest, the entire Atlantic coast of the country could be affected in the afternoon. “It is rather the northwest quarter which will be watered, the soils will be saturated with water”explains Ludovic Lagrande, forecaster at Weather Solutions, who also forecasts “for Monday big waves in Finistère up to 10 m”.
After storm Éowyn in northern France, Herminia continues its progress in the Atlantic Ocean and is getting closer. “By the middle to the end of the century, the most intense storms, particularly in Europe, are expected to have increasing intensities”indicates Robert Vautard, climatologist and co-chair of group 1 of the IPCC. Brest has decided to close its parks and gardens, cancel outdoor sporting events and block certain traffic routes.
