Launch of the first NBA basketball school in Morocco

According to a press release from the UM6P, the collaboration between these institutions provides for the launch of the first NBA school in Morocco and four JR. NBA leagues, noting that it is the “largest basketball development program at Young people never implemented by the League in the country ”.

The signing ceremony of this collaboration took place at the UM6P in , the European antenna of the University, in the presence of the president of the UM6P, Hicham El Habti, the Deputy Commissioner and Director of Operations of the NBA , Mark Tatum, of the director general of NBA Africa, Clare Akamanzi, and the president of Basketball Africa League (BAL), Amadou Gallo Fall.

This collaboration between NBA Africa and UM6P will be implemented by Evosport, in collaboration with Act4community, an entity of the OCP group ecosystem. Together, specifies the same source, they will launch four Jr. NBA leagues who will benefit almost 2,000 boys and girls under the age of 18 in Khouribga, Gantour, Laayoune and El Jadida each year. In parallel, the first NBA basketball school in Morocco will be born in these four localities. More than 200 local coaches will access specialized training programs.

Cited in the press release, Mr. Akamanzi stressed that previous initiatives in Morocco “allowed us to see that there is an incredible passion for basketball throughout the country”, noting that in collaboration with the UM6P and before the First matches of the African Basketball League in Morocco in April, “we are impatient to considerably strengthen our basketball development efforts in the country and offer thousands of young Moroccans the opportunity to learn and play basketball” .

For his part, Mr. El Habti said he was “delighted to work with NBA Africa to introduce this innovative basketball program for young people in Morocco”, stressing that in the UM6P, “we believe in the power of sport to inspire and develop young minds ”.

This collaboration, he added, “fits perfectly into our mission to promote innovation and contribute to the socio-economic development of Africa”, explaining that thanks to Evosport, “we are committed to creating Opportunities for young athletes so that they can flourish and reach their full potential ”.

According to the press release, the UM6P, as a key element of the OCP group’s ecosystem, has significantly contributed to the group’s long -standing commitment to the development of sport in Morocco.

The collaboration with NBA Africa supports young people targeted by the ACT4COMMUNITY program and testifies to the efforts made by the OCP Group to permanently and concretely improve the standard of living of populations by the creation of jobs, entrepreneurship, culture and sport.

This project, notes the press release, is a continuation of the collaboration between NBA Africa and the OCP group, which has set up Jr. NBA leagues in the cities of Benguerir and Khouribga.

To date, NBA Africa has already provided more than 100,000 young people and Moroccan coaches from its basketball development programs, notes the same source.
