French coach Rudi Garcia has been named the new coach of the Red Devils, replacing Italian-German Domenico Tedesco, the Belgian Football Union announced on Friday.
The French technician (60 years old) will be presented to the press on Friday with Vincent Mannaert, the sports director of the Belgian Union, said the same source.
Rudi Garcia, who takes over from Tedesco, dismissed just a week ago, will have to rekindle the flame of the Red Devils before the play-offs to stay in League A of the Nations League, against Ukraine on March 20 in Murcia for the first leg and the 23rd in Genk for the return, and, above all, the start of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will begin three months later.
-The French technician, without a club since November 2023, notably coached Lille (2008-2013), with whom he won the Cup-Championship double in 2010-2011, as well as AS Roma (2013-2016), Olympique from Marseille (2016-2019) or Lyon (2019-2021).
With OM, Garcia was a finalist in the Europa League in 2018, beaten by Atlético de Madrid (3-0). He also had a brief stint at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia (2022-2023) and Naples.
