Senegal mourns the disappearance of Madior Diouf, who died on the night of January 22 to 23 at his home. The announcement was made by Moustapha Niasse. Born in 1939 in Fimela, Madior Diouf (86 years old) was an eminent professor of literature at Cheikh Anta Diop University and a politician. A committed trade unionist, Madior Diouf led the single teachers’ union in Senegal (Sudes) for eight years.
Founder and leader of the National Democratic Rally (RND), he was inspired by the ideas of Cheikh Anta Diop to promote an alternative democratic vision. Former Minister of Culture under Moustapha Niasse, he also made his mark by running in the 1993 presidential election. Associate professor of literature at Cheikh Anta Diop University
Intellectual and defender of the values of social justice, Madior Diouf leaves a cultural and political legacy that has deeply marked Senegal. His body will be raised this Friday at the Main hospital, followed by his burial at the Yoff Muslim cemetery.
