In the coming months, airline passenger rights will be modified and could benefit consumers. What changes are expected?

Soon a revolution in air travel? The law for aircraft passengers will evolve in the coming months and make life easier for consumers in Europe, this is the wish of the Council of the European Union chaired by Poland for six months. Here are some points of regulation which could be modified.

These modifications are based on proposals made to the European Commission by Anaïs Escudié, director of the RetardVol.fr legal service, which facilitates access to airline reimbursements in the event of a flight delay or cancellation.

According to the latter's proposals, passengers will benefit from the new changes. Thus, the European Commission could broaden the qualification of canceled flights and now assign it to flights advanced by more than an hour, to flights turning back to the original airport and also to diverted flights (those which change destination). destination airport at the last moment), except for flights redirected to an airport in the same city or region, indicate our colleagues at Capital.

The Commission envisages that any delay of more than three hours will, in the future, be considered the equivalent of a cancellation and will therefore have to be compensated in the same way as a cancellation.

Clearer communication

The commission will also push airlines to step up their information policy to facilitate access to refunds and compensation in the event of delay or cancellation. The latter will therefore be obliged to send passengers the name and address of the company to which they must make their compensation request. They will also have to remind passengers of the rights of passengers in this situation.

Until now, sites specializing in appeals to airlines in the event of delay or cancellation, such as RetardVol.fr, helped travelers obtain their reimbursement.
