This new positioning of the sensors would provide a response to all users who regularly complain about the stability of the iPhone once placed on a table. The iPhone 16 tends to tip onto its left side, the fault of its protrusion on the back. With a horizontal block, the iPhone 17 would not be any thinner, but would hold more firmly on a flat surface for typing messages or navigating the interface, without the phone constantly tipping over.
If we refer to this model, the sensors would now all be aligned, which makes it easier to take spatial photos and videos for the Apple Vision Pro. Sales of the mixed reality headset are weak, but Apple does not appear to be abandoning its likely future product line.
Finally, a new design is always a very good marketing argument, put forward during the launch of the device. iPhone sales are stagnating around the world, and the launch of a new format, in addition to an iPhone 17 Air with reduced thickness, could be enough to restart the machine and encourage renewals.
