The Saint-Louis regional hospital is hosting a three-day ophthalmological mission, organized by the French association Médic’air in collaboration with the management of the health structure. This initiative aims not only to provide modern medical equipment, but also to diagnose patients suffering from glaucoma.

“Four years ago, we flew our planes from Vichy to land in Saint-Louis and launch a collaboration with the hospital (..) The implementation of this project encountered several obstacles due to the Covid pandemic- 19, but it finally saw the light of day in the last two years,” said Pierre Dervieux, member of Vichy Médic’air.

This collaboration aims to support the hospital in its provision of medical devices dedicated to the detection, monitoring and operation of glaucoma. “We returned this week to continue our work alongside the Saint-Louis medical team and other Senegalese specialists,” he added.

Dr. Seydou Sow, ophthalmologist at the Saint-Louis regional hospital, expressed his gratitude to these partnerships which have made it possible to improve the technical platform of the establishment in the field of ophthalmology.

“Thanks to the provision of the latest generation laser equipment, the hospital was able to open a glaucoma treatment unit. This development has led to a significant increase in the number of patients treated and has facilitated the management of the disease,” said the doctor.

“The modernization of equipment has made it possible to extend the field of intervention in matters of cataracts, particularly in children, whether traumatic or congenital. This has allowed us to treat these pathologies using the latest surgical technologies. We hope to strengthen this collaboration in the future,” hinted Dr. SOW.
