Tivaouane, January 21 (APS) – The registration process for two-wheelers in the Tivaouane department starts on January 29, we learned during an information meeting held Monday under the chairmanship of the prefect, Mamadou Guèye.
Registration procedures are planned at the Course de Courses, in the commune of Tivaouane, which alone has around 7,000 motorbike taxis in Jakarta.
Other similar meetings are planned in Taïba-Ndiaye Ndiaye, Meckhé and Notto.
In addition to the regional director of land transport for Thiès, Moustapha Tall, the mayors of Tivaouane Demba Diop Sy and Pambal Lazare Lamane Thiaw took part in this meeting.
Representatives of other municipalities in the department also attended this information meeting on the decentralization of enrollment activities for the registration of two-wheelers in the Tivaouane department.
Jakarta’s defense and security forces and motorcycle riders’ associations were also represented at the briefing.
In a circular from Prime Minister Ousmane dated December 13, 2024, the competent services were asked to launch a two-wheeler registration operation, which must be free, except for the registration document and the plate.
According to the regional land transport manager in Thiès, four cases have been the most frequent since the start of the two-wheeler registration process.
The first concerns motorcycles cleared from customs without the registration document, whose owners must provide a certificate of release for consumption (CMC), a customs declaration, a bill of sale legalized in a police station or in a gendarmerie brigade.
The second scenario concerns people who have imported motorcycles in the form of spare parts and have cleared them through customs on their behalf. In this case, they must produce a CMC, a receipt proving that they have paid customs clearance fees and a photocopy of their national identity card.
-As for the third case, these are motorcycles already registered and transferred, therefore “Senegalized”. Owners must provide a registration document in paper or scanned format, with the words crossed out, a legalized deed of sale and the two national identity documents of the buyer and the seller.
In the last scenario, relating to renewal, the owner holding the old registration document in paper format, seeks to have a digital and biometric registration document established.
He must present himself with his old registration card to be renewed and a photocopy of his national identity card, explains Moustapha Tall, regional director of land transport in Thiès.
The mayor of Pambal welcomed this “excellent initiative aimed at strengthening the security of ‘Jakartaman’ and users”, ensuring that it will be supported by all the mayors of the department.
In the same vein, his colleague Demba Diop Sy undertook to identify the various concerns of the regional transport directorate and to satisfy them, before January 29, 2025, for the needs of the organization of this operation.
A three-month deadline has been set for free registration of motorcycles.
This identification phase does not concern tricycles, specified the regional land transport manager of Thiès.
The representatives of several Jakarta motorcycle taxi driver associations greatly appreciated this information meeting, which helped to resolve many misunderstandings.
