A memorandum of understanding was signed on Monday in Rabat between the House of Advisors and the Parliament of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) for the strengthening of cooperation between the two parties.

Signed by the President of the House of Advisors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, and the President of the CEMAC Parliament, Evariste Ngamana, visiting the Kingdom at the head of a large delegation, this agreement is part of the continuity of relations between the CEMAC countries and Morocco, based on historical, cultural and civilizational links and on common values ​​of development, cooperation, solidarity and mutual respect.

It also reflects the interest shown by both parties in the promotion and development of economic relations between the CEMAC countries and the Kingdom, as well as in strengthening opportunities for joint cooperation between the two parties. The agreement also reflects the importance for both parties to establish parliamentary partnerships between the CEMAC Parliament and the House of Advisors in order to promote the exchange of experiences and expertise on subjects and questions of common interest.

Under this agreement, the two sides affirm the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening cooperation and unifying positions on bilateral and regional issues, as well as in exploring ways to develop economic, commercial relations and human and to exploit the promising potential of cooperation between the CEMAC countries and Morocco.

They also emphasize the growing challenges associated with international geopolitical changes and their implications for achieving the desired economic and human development.

In this sense, the House of Advisors and the CEMAC Parliament welcomed the important role of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in strengthening the foundations of stability, security and development in Africa through the launch of strategic development initiatives, notably the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, the Atlantic Initiative and the Initiative aimed at promoting access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

They highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation as a key factor in addressing challenges and issues at the international and regional levels, and as a mechanism for initiating structural transformation of the economies of countries in the South and laying the foundations of strong and sustainable growth, praising the efforts made by the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa to promote integration in the CEMAC zone, as well as the important role it plays in achieving the objectives of the regional integration at the level of the African continent and in the establishment of true African unity.

The two parties also highlighted the need to exploit all available opportunities and possibilities to consolidate and deepen institutional parliamentary cooperation between the CEMAC parliament and the House of Advisors, taking into account in particular the diversity of the composition of the House of Advisors, which includes economic, socio-professional, union and territorial components, as well as to promote economic and commercial relations and support investments between the CEMAC countries and Morocco.

They also underlined the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations between the CEMAC Parliament and the House of Councilors, through the exchange of experiences and the implementation of training programs aimed at developing the capacities of parliamentarians and executives. administrative functions of the two parties in the different areas of work of the two institutions, in particular through the platform of the House of Advisors for parliamentary diplomacy and South-South dialogue, as well as the promotion of the exchange of visits and the joint organization conferences and seminars on themes and questions of common interest.

The two parties also invited the Secretary General of the CEMAC Parliament and the Secretary General of the House of Advisors of the Kingdom of Morocco to develop a work plan aimed at concretizing the content of this protocol.
