A ski hiker lost his life late Saturday morning near Giswil, in the canton of Obwalden. He was swept away by an avalanche shortly after 11:30 a.m. in the “Obrist Arni” region.

A rescue helicopter went to the scene as well as agents of the Lucerne cantonal police, due to a mutual assistance agreement between the police forces of Lucerne and Obwalden, specifies a press release issued this Monday.

Despite resuscitation attempts, the victim died on the spot. He is a 49-year-old man.
