Despite his presence in the spotlight for years, thanks to the mandates (and escapades) of his father, Ivanka Trump remains a fairly enigmatic character. The First Daughter, who played an advisory role during her father's first term, rarely grants interviews. But she departed from this distrust to confide in the podcast Him & Her from Skinny Confidential which was published this Monday. She managed to play a fairly subtle balancing act: convincing that she had loved her work with Donald Trump during the first term, while making it clear that she would not be hired again.
“When my father was elected, I had no intention of taking service,” she explains. What do you want, sometimes the sirens of nepotism are too loud… Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner did not receive salaries from the White House, but scooped up around $640 million in outside interests during this period. According to Ivanka, it was her father who asked her and her husband to join the adventure. “This was not part of my life plans. I loved the life I had built for my young family in New York. I had an eight-month-old son when we arrived in Washington and two children not much older. »
A golden opportunity
“I feel very privileged to have had this opportunity. I’m glad Jared and I were able to help my dad,” the First Daughter explains to the couple hosting the podcast, Lauryn Evarts Bosstick et Michael Bosstick. “This time it's very different because a lot of people are offering to help, and I'm very grateful to them. »
The entrepreneurial couple behind the “wellness” brand Skinny Confidential, as well as the media group Dear Media Brand, have been very kind towards Ivanka. Lauryn closed a Facebook group she had started in 2000 because the topics had become too “heavy”. Imagine that we were talking about social issues there, while she would have just wanted us to talk about makeup.
-After four years spent “recalibrating,” as she puts it, Ivanka seems impervious to the sirens of Washington this time. “I'll be in Florida, and I'll try to be the best mom ever.” She now seems rather wary of politics: “This world is very dark, and I try to preserve my universe from this negativity.” So how does she see her role during the second term? It will simply consist of stopping by from time to time to watch a film or a sports match with the family.
So there are very few conflicts of interest for her. Not like his father-in-law, Charles Kushnerwhom Donald Trump appointed ambassador to France. A decision taken during a family meal, between two conversations about problems with the law? Perhaps so because both Ivanka's father and stepfather were convicted by the courts. Donald Trump pardoned Father Kushner in 2020 for his tax fraud convictions.
Protect yourself from men
The interviewers did not pick up on some of the poles set by Ivanka. In particular, when she said that her daughter Arabella13, does jiu-jitsu, a sport very popular in the Trumpist sphere: “At 11, she told me: “Mom, I want to learn to defend myself. Can you sign me up for a self-defense class?” I hallucinated. Because me, at 11 years old, I don't know what I was thinking, but not the need to learn to defend oneself. I thought it was a very good idea. »
