Temperatures were negative in the department throughout the week, with nearly -8 degrees recorded in Lacroix-sur-Meuse on the morning of Tuesday January 14. These climatic conditions further worsen the daily lives of the most precarious. In response, the prefecture launched the severe cold plan, synonymous with concrete measures deployed to help the most exposed people.
Dealing with the emergency
The plan, led by prefect Xavier Delarue, provides for a series of concrete measures: increase in emergency accommodation capacities, extension of day reception hours, intensification of raids to identify people in distress. These actions are coordinated with 115 (the social emergency number), sector social workers and local associations such as AMIE, on the front line in supporting vulnerable people.
