SENEGAL-COLLECTIVITES / The municipality of Mont-Rolland opens an office intended to promote local entrepreneurship – Senegalese press agency

Mont-Rolland, January 17 (APS) – The municipality of Mont-Rolland (west) encourages entrepreneurs to contact the economic office open at the town hall, with the aim of densifying the local economy and propelling entrepreneurial initiatives by taking advantage , for example, work on the toll highway between Saint-Louis (north) and Dakar, we learned from its mayor, Yves Lamine Ciss.

The municipal council paid a deposit of more than 10 million CFA francs to two microfinance institutions responsible, with the help of the economic office of the town hall, of providing them with advice and lending them funds, said Mr. Ciss at the APS.

”Our concern is that the workforce generated by the toll highway projects is preserved, even after delivery of the infrastructure,” he said.

Yves Lamine Ciss thinks that it is only by helping businesses to set up in the area that it will be possible to prevent the migration of local populations to the cities.

The town hall is of the opinion that economic activity can develop in rural areas as well as in the city, which has led the municipal council to facilitate the installation of companies, those active in the processing of fruits and vegetables, by example.

”For a long time, people have wanted us to believe that industries should only exist in cities,” said Mr. Ciss, believing that it is possible to develop industry wherever there is business. electricity and labor.

According to its mayor, the town of Mont-Rolland wants to help develop the processing of agricultural products. At the same time, it plans to develop an industrial economic zone.

To do this, a contract has already been signed by the municipality and the Industrial Zone for local economic development.

”The local economic office lists the [entrepreneurs]. We then intervene by providing financing, [grâce à des cautions] which we deposited in two microfinance institutions, to facilitate loans to entrepreneurs,” explained Yves Lamine Ciss.

Entrepreneurs meeting the required criteria receive financing allowing them to start their activities and repay the loans later, explained Mr. Ciss, promising an increase in the amounts paid to microfinance institutions and the number of beneficiary companies in the coming years .

The town hall is preparing, according to him, to ”finalize” the creation of an incubator responsible for training entrepreneurs and facilitating the presence of businesses.

Added to this innovation is the installation of a recording studio, which ”is beginning to make the town proud,” said Yves Lamine Ciss.

This studio, entirely financed by the town hall of Mont-Rolland, is a space for promoting the talents of young local artists, according to him.

The Senegalese Copyright and Neighboring Rights Association (SODAV) is associated with this initiative, he said.

The town of Mont-Rolland has around thirty SODAV members, according to its mayor.

The studio cost the town hall 10 million CFA francs, he said, recalling that the representative of the Thiès region (west) at the last edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture, Moussa Palou, is a national of the commune of Mont-Rolland.
