Users of Shelna’s Hope will be better received thanks to the new space inaugurated Friday in Havre-Saint-Pierre. The expansion of the building allows the organization, which welcomes people living with physical or intellectual disabilities, to add several services, including a day center.
A 307 square meter (3,300 square foot) annex was added to the building, constructed in 1973. This allows users to have more space when doing their activities.

Several rooms have also been added to the center: a respite room, a treatment room and finally a Snoezelen stimulation room.
It stimulates all the senses and can be personalized depending on who uses it.
explains Ms. Patoine. The Snoezelen approach makes it possible to soothe visitors thanks to a range of tactile objects and lights, in particular. The service will be open to all of Minganie.
The expansion of Shelna’s Hope is welcomed with open arms by the political class. She will give more respite services for caregivers
of the region, writes Kateri Champagne Jourdain in a press release.
For his part, Mayor Paul Barriault notes that the addition of space could possibly be used to accommodate visitors from Anticosti or distant villages. At the Municipality level, we are very proud to have these facilities.
The expansion work cost some $2.5 million, which was financed by Quebec, the MRC of Minganie and the Municipality of Havre-Saint-Pierre, among others.
Shelna’s Hope does not intend to stop there, however. After acquiring more space, the organization intends to renovate its original building and create a garden and a park on land it has acquired.
