British Prime Minister Keir Starmer strongly condemned the rise of “anti-Semitism around the world” on Friday during a historic visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, AFP reported.
This visit comes a few days before the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the camp by the Soviet Red Army, scheduled for January 27, in which many international delegations will participate, including King Charles III who will visit there for the first time.
“We continually condemn this hatred and boldly say ‘never again’,” Starmer said, adding: “But where is ‘never again’ when we see the poison of anti-Semitism rising around the world? after October 7?
The Polish government recently announced that it would facilitate access for Israeli officials wishing to attend the commemorations, despite the arrest warrant issued in November by the International Criminal Court for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Israel will be represented by its Minister of Education. The ICC has issued arrest warrants not only against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged “crimes against humanity” and “war crimes”, but also against Mohammed Deif, leader of Hamas.
-Auschwitz-Birkenau remains the symbol of the genocide perpetrated by Nazi Germany, where around a million Jews, out of the six million murdered in Europe, perished between 1940 and 1945, as well as more than 100,000 non-Jews.
