At least two people, including a teacher, were killed in a knife attack on Thursday, January 16, in a high school in northeastern Slovakia. “The 18-year-old student suspected of having committed this serious crime was arrested shortly after”added this source. Another person was injured and was taken to hospital, a member of the Slovak emergency service told AFP, Danka Capakova.
The attack took place in the town of Spisska Stara Ves, near the border with Poland, about 280 km northeast of the capital, Bratislava. Rescue services “sent several ambulances to the Spisska Stara Ves high school before 1 p.m.”, added Danka Capakova.
Slovak Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok expressed his “sincere condolences to the families of the victims” of the attack, which he condemned, adding that he was going to the scene immediately. Describing the attack as “true tragedy”Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also offered his condolences, stating that“no problem in the world can be solved with a knife or any other weapon”.
