Elements of the Saly Portudal gendarmerie research brigade made an exceptional seizure yesterday afternoon, intercepting 100 kg of hashish packaged in 100 packages of one kilogram each. The market value of this drug is estimated at 120 million FCFA.
On security patrol in Saly Niakh-Niakhal around 3 p.m., the police, led by Commander Ousmane Ndiaye, spotted a vehicle parked suspiciously at the foot of a fence. The absence of the driver at the scene reinforced their suspicions. A careful search of the vehicle revealed a suitcase and a bag containing the 100 packets of hashish.
Upon further inspection, the gendarmes also found five European registration plates hidden under the seats of the vehicle. All the material, including the drugs, was immediately taken to the brigade premises for further checks.
The drug is valued at 1.2 million FCFA per kilogram. An investigation has been opened to find the driver or those responsible for this illegal cargo. The authorities reiterate their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region.
