This project, inaugurated in the presence of the governor of the province of Kenitra, Abdelhamid El Mazid and several personalities, aims to support the modernization of port infrastructure and the marketing of fishing products, while strengthening their valorization.

With a total cost of 20 million dirhams, this new generation hall, built on a total area of ​​1,460 square meters, is equipped with identification, exhibition spaces for the sale and shipping of fishery products, a cold room to ensure better preservation of product quality, as well as technical and administrative premises.

Located in the heart of the fishing port of Mehdia, it was carried out by the National Fisheries Office (ONP), as part of the overall program to upgrade the port, which is part of the national strategic orientations aimed at developing the coastal fishing industry in Morocco.

On this occasion, Ms. Driouich indicated, in a statement to the press, that the fish market at the port of Mehdia was designed according to international standards, and meets the criteria linked to the improvement of the working conditions of professionals and to guaranteeing the preservation of product quality in the best conditions.

Thanks to its technical and organizational characteristics, this project constitutes a qualitative advance to support the economic dynamics of the maritime fishing sector at the regional and national levels, she underlined.

For his part, the president of the Federation of Maritime Fisheries Chambers, Larbi Mhidi, noted that this structure will contribute to guaranteeing the quality of maritime products and ensuring their sale to the consumer at preferential prices.

Meeting international norms and standards in terms of hygiene, safety and temperature, the new hall also includes a standardized container management unit (UGCN) and a pelagic fish sales room equipped with a weighbridge.

It constitutes the 14th new generation market out of 18 markets in the Kingdom, built and modernized for a total investment of 630 million dirhams covering the 14 fish markets.

In 2024, the port of Mehdia recorded significant activity with 14,141 tonnes of fishery products marketed, generating a total value of 86 million dirhams.
