US President Joe Biden has decided to remove Cuba from the blacklist of states supporting terrorism, a senior US official announced. This surprise decision by the outgoing president was made official in a memorandum published by the White House on Tuesday, January 14.

This goes into the “good direction”reacted the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez. “The United States has adopted measures that go in the right direction, but the blockade persists”reacted on X the head of Cuban diplomacy, referring to the American economic embargo in force since 1962 against the communist island.

A few days before ceding power to Joe Biden in January 2021, Donald Trump made the exact opposite decision, that of placing Cuba on this list which also includes North Korea, Iran and Syria. It is entirely possible that Donald Trump will decide to put Cuba back on the list after coming to power.
