It's been a few weeks since the Weg, meaning Woodstock En Gare, has definitively bowed out.
This place, serving as a designer boutique where you could enjoy (among other things) a homemade pastry, was installed since 2022 in the premises of the old station du Pouliguen (Loire-Atlantique) as part of the “1,001 stations” program launched by the SNCF.
Living spaces in stations
This operation consisted of offering unoccupied buildings in stations still in service (former station manager's apartment or technical premises not currently used).
In the desire to transform city centers and town centers, the SNCF wanted to make these existing places into use spaces connected with the surrounding centers and territories.
The objective was simple: to reinvent stations by facilitating the establishment of activities and services for travelers and local residents, all in agreement with the municipalities.
A mix of genres
It is in this context that Mickaël and Anaïs invested in the building to make it a creative and engaged place. Around a catering area, the owners initially positioned themselves in favor of a recycling of restored furniture.
Then with passion helping, they made their furniture in their workshop. These products on display were supplemented by a designer boutique on the Guérande peninsula and the Nantes region (jewelry, illustrators, home decorations), by sale of organic cakesaccessories for children, cosmetics, very stylish caps, bananas made by a French designer, ceramics, vintage decoration from the 60s/70s.
Unfortunately, in this mixture of genres, the Weg did not find its customers. And this, despite the establishment of brunches.
If this adventure is coming to an end, traders have already suggested thatthey planned to continue the activity in another location.
Who to take over?
So obviously, the closure of Weg raises the question of what happens next. What will there be instead? It is still too early to know. To relaunch a new activity, SNCF is launching a call for project leaders.
These premises can accommodate local shops, innovative services, coworking spaces, and much more.
She points out that the station benefits from an ideal location with an annual passage of more than 115,000 travelers. This location can attract not only travelers but also residents of the town and surrounding areas.
The premises, with a surface area of 156 m² (74m² on the ground floor and 82 m² upstairs), are perfectly located in the heart of Pouliguen, close to the city center, the beach and transport. SNCF offers project leaders tailor-made support and flexibility in rental terms.
Applications are open until March 4.
