The 25 cent increase in the price of Canada Post stamps came into effect on Monday.

Canada Post confirmed Monday, in a press release, the new rate of $1.24 per unit for the price of stamps purchased in booklets, rolls or sheets, the most sold. The old price in 2024 was 99 cents.

As for the price of a “domestic regime” stamp sold individually, it increased from $1.15 to $1.44.

This price revision, announced last September, aims to better reflect the price of stamps with the increasing costs of providing the postal service.

Over the past ten years, Canada Post has limited rate increases for lettermail items, but is now forced to adjust its prices due to the reduction in mail volume and “persistent inflationary pressures,” explained the Company in the press release.

“Canada Post understands that rate increases, although necessary, result in additional costs for customers and it strives to limit the impact,” it was added.

According to Canada Post estimates, the rate increases for Canadian customers will result in an additional cost of $2.26 per year for an average household and $42.17 for an average Canadian small business.

Permanent stampsMC will continue to be valid at the “domestic rate” postage rate in force. The price increase will also affect letter post items destined for the United States and the international regime, as well as the Registered Mail service.MC.

The rate changes for commercial lettermail also came into effect Monday.
