This plan is based on seasonal monitoring activated each year from November 1 to March 31. The transition to the vigilance stage is triggered when Météo- forecasts announce temperatures significantly lower than seasonal norms for at least two consecutive days. According to the meteorological agency, a cold wave will affect a large part of the territory between this Monday and Tuesday, particularly affecting the North-East quarter, but also southern departments such as Aveyron and Lozère, as well as the West up to 'to -Atlantique and Vendée.

“A severe cold spell is an episode of cold weather characterized by its persistence, intensity and geographic extent. Extreme cold, like heatwaves, constitutes a danger for everyone's health and can therefore cause significant health and social impacts,” specifies a prefecture.

The vigilance system has four levels, indicated by colors, as for rain and thunderstorms. Aveyron and Lozère are currently on yellow alertwhich implies increased attention without activation of specific measures.

“The national plan relating to the prevention and management of the health and social impacts of cold waves aims to detect, prevent and limit the effects of winter temperatures, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations. It plans to strengthen patrols and increase the number of 115 listeners to respond to urgent requests,” adds the prefecture.
