Around a hundred people gathered this Sunday, January 12 at the beginning of the afternoon in the Montesoro sector, in Bastia. The purpose of the demonstration? Pay homage to Marie-Claire Gallettia resident of the neighborhood who killed herself on December 26 at the age of 77.
Residents, citizens but also personalities classified as far-right marched behind a banner bearing the inscription “Marie-Claire Semper Viva”.
The procession then went to the foot of one of the towers of the residence The logis of Montesorowhere the lifeless body of the septuagenarian was found. There, two teenagers successively spoke.
In general remarks, one of them deplored the advent “of a society where respect is becoming an increasingly rare value” and emphasized that “It is not a problem of individuals but the symptom of a deeper evil.”
The other, on the other hand, made explicit reference to aggression to which Marie-Claire Galletti had been subjected a month before her death, not hesitating to make the link between this attack and her suicide.
Political figures
A thesis that the prosecution today refuses to validate. “At this stage, it is not possible to establish a direct and certain relationship between the aggression suffered by this person and the circumstances, always complex, of his suicide”indicates Jean-Philippe Navarre, the Bastia prosecutor.
Before recalling that the minor, author of the attack, “was immediately identified by the police, presented to the public prosecutor’s office and then to a children’s judge who placed him under judicial supervision pending his trial.”
The affair, which caused a lot of excitement in the neighborhood, also gave rise to positions taken by several political organizations classified as far-right.
In this Sunday’s demonstration, we could note the presence of several personalities associated with this movement. Among them, local executives from the National Rally, Reconquest, Mossa Palatina, Forza Nova and Avvene Corsu.
