Every day, on average, more than 65 caregivers are physically or verbally attacked in hospitals. Wednesday January 8 in Annemasse in Haute-Savoie, seven of them were injured.
In Annemasse (Haute-Savoie), traumatized caregivers cannot forget the violence they faced on Wednesday January 8. Their attackers, a patient and his brother who considered the treatment too slow, injured seven caregivers. “I found myself on the ground with a severe beating”testifies Alexandre De Oliveria, nurse responsible for emergencies. According to the hospital director, emergencies are sometimes hectic, but this scene was incredibly violent.
In Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), last month, a psychiatric emergency doctor was attacked with a knife. In August, the emergency room of a hospital in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) recorded 21 attacks in seven months. In 2020, 955 attacks took place compared to 1,581 in 2023, an increase of 65%. These figures represent only a third of attacks because staff do not always report violence. For assault and battery, the attackers face up to five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros.
