The general director of the Maison de la Presse, Sambou Biagui, presented an ambitious plan for the year 2025. During a greeting ceremony, he announced the implementation of several initiatives, including the creation of a center development, the organization in May of an International African Media Exhibition (SIMA), as well as the launch of the Babacar Touré Prize intended for press companies.
According to the Sud Quotidien website, Mr. Biagui declared: “I am delighted to present to you some flagship projects that we will implement this year.” He spoke in front of staff and representatives of press associations gathered at the headquarters of the Maison de la Presse. Momar Diong, director general of the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), was also present on this occasion.
The development center will be dedicated to the continuing training of journalists, with workshops led by experts on different communication media. Mr. Biagui insisted on the importance of maintaining a high level of quality in the information transmitted. As for SIMA, it will constitute a platform to promote media diversity, discuss innovations and strengthen strategic partnerships.
The “Press Card” project is also on the program, in order to facilitate the dissemination of the work of journalist-writers via signing sessions. The Babacar Touré Prize will reward press companies which stand out for the professional and social treatment of their employees. As part of the “Premises Grants”, offices will be allocated to press associations without their own space, thus supporting their activities.
-A “Medical Care” program will aim to reduce medical care costs for certain journalists in order to improve their well-being. In addition, Sambou Biagui underlined the importance of strengthening collaboration between media entities to make the Maison de la Presse a center for meetings and exchanges.
The director said: “By joining forces, sharing our resources and mutually supporting our initiatives, we can build a Senegal where every voice counts and where freedom of expression is fully respected.” He reiterated his commitment to creating an environment conducive to cooperation and the exchange of ideas.
Momar Diong of the APS highlighted the “second life” and the “new lease of life” of the Maison de la Presse. He is also committed to actively participating in the maintenance of the infrastructure to make it a pleasant place to work. At the conclusion of the ceremony, gifts were offered to the participants, who expressed their wishes for success for all the announced projects.
