The United States has presented the Senegalese national gendarmerie with a donation of modern equipment intended to strengthen the surveillance and security capabilities of national borders. This bundle includes night vision goggles, GPS devices, helmets, ballistic shields, and essential medical equipment. With a total value of more than 750,000 US dollars (or more than 450 million CFA francs), this equipment supports the strengthening of the operational resources of the Gendarmerie.
The handover ceremony took place at the Thiès Regional Tactical Training Center on January 7, 2025, in the presence of representatives from both countries. This event demonstrates the United States’ continued support for Senegal’s efforts to ensure the security of its citizens and its borders.
This donation is part of a four-year cooperation program between the two nations, aimed at improving the capabilities of Senegalese security forces to detect and counter threats. The objective of this initiative is also to effectively combat illicit trafficking, such as drugs, weapons and human trafficking. Through joint training initiatives and resource sharing, this partnership helps strengthen security both nationally and regionally, while consolidating ties between the United States and Senegal.
In his speech, the United States Ambassador to Senegal, Michael Raynor, expressed his country’s pride in supporting Senegal’s efforts:
“The United States is honored to support Senegal’s efforts to protect its borders. By providing modern, high-quality equipment, we strengthen the operational capabilities of the National Gendarmerie. This ongoing partnership illustrates our unwavering commitment to the security and well-being of the Senegalese people. »
