final stretch for the rehabilitation of the Plaza de Toros – Telquel.ma

LThe municipality underlined, in an information note, that the rehabilitation of the Plaza de Toros was “an ambitious project which aims to highlight one of the most emblematic historical monuments of the city of Tangier and to make it a dynamic space for cultural, artistic and economic development”.

Given the importance given by the municipality of Tangier to the cultural field, the municipal council is actively engaged in the implementation of this project, allocating a budget of 40 million dirhams (MDH), on a overall budget of 70 MDH, thus consecrating its pioneering role in supporting heritage projects with a developmental dimension”, noted the same source.

Built in 1950, the Plaza de Toros, also called the arenas of Tangier, has long hosted bull races and bullfights. Despite the cessation of bullfighting shows in 1970, this arena has remained a part of the city’s memory and heritage.

This project plans to convert the Plaza de Toros into a multifunctional space with a capacity of 7,000 seats, including artistic exhibition halls, restaurant spaces, open-air exhibition spaces and commercial space, as well as parking, in addition to other facilities.
