The snowy weather that seems to be standing still begins to fade on Thursday in southwestern Quebec, while elsewhere, winter conditions will still be in effect despite a spectacular rise in the mercury.
Despite the presence of clouds, the sun will appear in the western sectors of the province, but the weather will be windy with temperatures of -8 degrees in Outaouais and -13 in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
In Montreal, the snow should stop in the morning to give way to generally cloudy weather accompanied by gusts of 50 km/h, but the mercury will rise to reach -4 degrees, according to Environment Canada.
The federal agency is forecasting another 5 centimeters of snow in certain areas of the center of the province, except in the Capitale-Nationale where the intermittent light snow will quickly give way to more or less dense clouds under rather mild temperatures.
The federal agency issued a special weather bulletin for Estrie and Beauce, indicating that “the combination of snow, winds and low temperatures is causing road conditions to deteriorate.”
On the other hand, Eastern Quebec still risks suffering with significant accumulations of snow, particularly in Bas-Saint-Laurent where certain sectors could still receive up to 10 centimeters of snow.
Elsewhere in the east of the province, intermittent light snow mixed with rain is expected in Gaspésie and on the North Shore, which will be swept by gusts of 60 km/h, while temperatures could reach 3 degrees above from the freezing point.
