The Senegalese Sugar Company (CSS) has sufficient stocks of sugar to properly supply the Senegalese market, its general director, Guillaume Ranson, assured Tuesday. “I want to tell the population, particularly Senegalese consumers, that CSS has sufficient stocks to properly supply the Senegalese market and even major upcoming events,” he declared during a press briefing preceded by a guided tour of the company’s facilities. Accompanied by the regional director of internal trade of Saint-Louis, Ousmane Diallo, Mr. Ranson assured that the CSS had more than 60,000 tonnes of sugar in stocks, including 15,000 in Dakar and more than 45,000 in Richard-Toll, where its factories are located in Senegal. Guillaume Ranson recalled that the company started the harvest in November 2024, adding that during these two months, more than forty thousand tons of sugar were produced. In addition, he denied the rumors of speculation indicating a shortage of sugar and a tight stock of this widely consumed commodity. The regional director of internal trade of Saint-Louis, Ousmane Diallo, said he was reassured about the correct supply of the market for the next six months. ”We noted today that there are sufficient stocks at the CSS, which ensures sugar production on the national territory. Forecasts show that there is a fairly sufficient quantity to adequately supply the market,” he said. Mr. Diallo castigated the declarations of certain trade actors intended to provoke speculation which could push the State to open the market to ensure imports of products competing with national production. He indicated that regular checks are carried out on the ground in the markets, because the sugar sector “constitutes an issue for national security”.
