The firefighters of Vendée intervened this Wednesday January 8, 2025 in Saint-Jean d'Hermine, around 2:40 p.m., on Chemin du Gue. A vehicle fell into water the Smagne, a tributary of the Lay.

21 firefighters on the rescue

To help the two people who occupied this car, 80% submerged21 firefighters were mobilized, from the emergency centers of Chaillé, Chantonnay, La Roche-sur-Yon, Les Sables-d'Olonne, Luçon, Saint-Gilles--de-Vie and Sainte-Hermine.

Two victims aged 67 and 71

Two people were saved: a 71 year old man and a 67 year old woman“in severe hypothermia”, indicates the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) of Vendée.

An assessment was carried out and the two victims were transported to the Luçon hospital center.

Two firefighters from the Sainte-Hermine rescue center, who carried out the rescue, also underwent a health check.
