Serious collision in Saguenay: motorists fled after the accident

A woman was seriously injured after a collision in Shipshaw on Tuesday evening, when motorists in the second car committed a hit and run.

The “high-velocity” accident occurred on Route Mathias, near Chemin du Lac-Hermel, around 9 p.m. The impact was so violent that extrication pliers were necessary to extricate a woman in her thirties from her vehicle.

She was transported to the hospital center in a condition considered serious, indicates Sergeant Simon Maltais, of the Saguenay Police Service (SPS). However, his condition had stabilized on Wednesday.

The section of road involved in this case was closed to traffic until 7 a.m. the following morning. A re-enactor from the Sûreté du Québec was called in to assist in analyzing the scene.

“Two individuals were traced a little further on the Mathias road, to a place where they had taken shelter,” explains Hervé Berghella, spokesperson for the SPS.

Suspected of having left the scene of the accident in a hurry, they were arrested for hit-and-run. They remained detained pending their appearance on Wednesday.
