A tragedy narrowly avoided. Tuesday December 31a young volunteer firefighter (JSP) from Tarn-et-Garonne saved his grandfather from a fire who ravaged their house in Viozan (Gers).
A cold-blooded gesture
Currently in her fourth year of training, this teenager has achieved “a gesture full of composure and courage“, insisted on emphasizing the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Gers (SDIS 32) on its social networks.
Still according to SDIS 32, the young girl reacted immediately after the discovery of a thick smoke spreading rapidly inside the home.
So, after taking the time to evacuate the members of her family present on the ground floor, she grabbed a ladder to access her grandfather's room, located on the upper floor of the House. And, “thanks to her skills acquired during her JSP course, she was able to carry out the rescue, bringing her grandfather back to safety“.
Completely destroyed by flames
Alerted a few minutes after the start of the fire, the firefighters noted, once on the scene, a house of 200 m2 completely destroyed by flames. “Built on two levels, three spears water were necessary to control the flames, including one deployed from an aerial ladder”, detailed SDIS 82.
However, their rapid intervention made it possible to preserve an adjoining outbuilding of 50 m2thus preventing the disaster from spreading further.
