315.5 billion CFA francs in a decade

The United States has devoted an impressive sum of more than $500 million, or approximately 315.5 billion CFA francs, to the Senegalese economy over the past ten years. This figure, which does not include investments by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), was specified by Katherine Musgrove Ketchum, head of the economic and commercial section of the American embassy in Senegal.

According to Ms. Ketchum, Senegal is establishing itself as an essential partner of the Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which has injected this considerable amount into various economic sectors of the country since 2014, including energy, health, agribusiness and support for businesses. “And, of course, there is funding from the MCC,” she underlined, specifying that the contributions from the Millennium Challenge Account also amount to several hundred billion CFA francs.

The Development Finance Corporation is a key American development finance institution, primarily aimed at supporting the private sector. This partnership results, among other things, in the presence of around fifty American companies currently operating in Senegal.
