Between January and October 2024, Spain recorded a dramatic increase in its imports of cucumbers from Morocco. In just five years, these imports have jumped by 182.5%, according to data analyzed using statistics from Estacom (Icex-Tax Agency).
During this period, Spain purchased 13.37 million kilos of cucumbers from various countries, an increase of 158.5% compared to 2020. The total value of these imports amounts to 17.26 million euros, with an average price of 1.29 euros per kilo.
Morocco main supplier of cucumbers representing 75.61% of imports
Morocco is the main supplier of cucumbers to Spain, representing 75.61% of total imports. Between January and October 2024, the kingdom exported 10.11 million kilos of cucumbers to Spain, for a value of 13.09 million euros, or an average price identical to that of the global market: 1.29 euros per kilo.
In second place, Portugal supplies 15.76% of Spanish imports, with a volume of 2.11 million kilos shipped over the same period. These Portuguese exports generated a value of 2.3 million euros, for an average price lower than that of Moroccan cucumbers, namely 1.09 euros per kilo.
-Other suppliers, including the Netherlands, occupy a negligible share of the market. At the end of the ranking, the Netherlands only exported 52,616 kilos to Spain, for a value of 65,311 euros, at an average price of 1.24 euros per kilo.

These figures confirm Moroccan domination of the Spanish cucumber market, a position acquired thanks to significant volumes and competitiveness in terms of prices. This dynamic could further evolve in the years to come.
