According to information from the British site Aerospaceglobalnews, the Morocco would consider the acquisition of the Chinese L-15 Falcon training jet to modernize the Royal Air Force (FRA) fleet. This decision would be motivated by the exceptional performance of the aircraft and the need to replace the aging fleet of Dassault Alpha jets.
The L-15 Falconalso known as Hongdu JL-10stands out for its impressive technical capabilities, with a maximum speed of Mach 1.4 and a payload capacity of 3,500 kg. The aircraft comes in three variants, each tailored to specific training and light attack missions.
A major strategic modernization
This potential acquisition is part of a broader strategy to modernize the Moroccan armed forces. The kingdom actively collaborates with various international partners, including the United States, with whom it regularly conducts joint military exercises, and Israel, particularly in the field of drones like the SpyX.
This diversification of partnerships demonstrates the desire of Morocco to develop versatile military capabilities. The three available versions of the L-15 include the L-15Aa subsonic advanced jet trainer powered by the Ivchenko-Progress AI-222-25 engine, the L-15Ba supersonic light attack variant, and the L-15 advanced fighter trainer, both equipped with the AI-222 K-25F engine with afterburner.
A decision awaiting confirmation
Although this information arouses keen interest in specialized circles, no official Moroccan source has yet confirmed this potential acquisition, nor specified which variant of the L-15 Falcon could be chosen to equip the Royal Air Forces. The United States, in particular, could study the subject carefully, they who probably do not wish to be associated, in the future, with China, from a military point of view, especially since the tensions between the two blocs n had been so vivid for a long time.
