How does students’ long-term memory work?

However, a math student, who realizes that he wanted to do physics, can already lighten the baggage in his future studies by earning credits. The same goes for the engineer who moves into computer science or the medical student who shifts to biology.

2. Do we reorient ourselves after the session or not?

When you are a first year higher education student, you can change options until February 15. This allows you to accumulate credits in the new orientation during the June session, and perhaps the September session. Thus, a student could already finish a year with a small package of credits from block 1, at the end of the two sessions, if he has really found his way.

This February 15 rule is specific to the first year of study. In reality, you can reorient yourself throughout the course of study. But outside of block 1, this reorientation can only occur at the start of the academic year (with some exceptions, see below).

By reorienting yourself before February 15 of your 1st year, you are not technically entering into the rules of “reorientation after the 1st year”, because you are still in your first year… It is equivalent to a reorientation at the very beginning of your 1st year. year, for example.

3. Sit down and think about what you want

If the student did not think seriously about his studies when he was in secondary school and reorients himself after block 1, changing after January does not burn the “wildcard” offered by the reorientation provided for by the landscape decree.

What is this joker? Reorientation, after a first year of higher education, gives the right to a sort of reset of the counters: the student who reorients after one year has exactly the same chances as a rhéto student who begins his studies, as the right to complete the 60 credits in block 1 in a maximum of two years and remain financeable (with a few exceptions).

We can always reorient ourselves later. According to Ares, the reorientation, in this case “offers” one more year. But in reality, it’s always the same: in the new branch, 2 years to pass the bac1 and 5 years to pass the 180 credits, from the change.

But should you quickly rush to another branch in February or devote your time to settling down and thinking about your studies and your future professional life? This is to be seen depending on the profile of the young person, who may or may not become discouraged in June and then in September. Case by case, but a possibility to consider.
