Au 1is January 2025, 24 new municipalities were born in France. Among which, we find Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) which merged with Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, or more than 147,000 inhabitants. Closer to home, two municipalities in the Vals de Saintonge, Saint-Georges-de-Longuepierre (238 inhabitants) and Nuaillé-sur-Boutonne (182) have joined forces, creating Rives-de-Boutonne, now 420. souls.
This Saturday, January 4, during the first municipal council, the 20 elected officials gathered – they will sit until the new mandate – had to choose a mayor for the newborn. Only Bruno Pommier, 63, mayor of Nuaillé-sur-Boutonne, was a candidate. With 19 votes in his favor against one for Maurice Pineau, 50, the mayor of Saint-Georges-de-Longuepierre, who had decided not to run, Bruno Pommier was elected by an absolute majority. “I thank you for this election, our collaboration is working well,” declared the new mayor, freshly elected.
Distinct identity
Maurice Pineau becomes de facto deputy mayor of Rives-de-Boutonne. “Congratulations to the two councils who stayed the course,” said the latter, following the election of his counterpart. Remember that the Saint-Georges and Nuaillé signs remain, “commune of Rives-de-Boutonne” will just be added below. We will continue to be united by having our distinct identity. »
This marriage confirms more than thirty years of collaboration between these two villages which had created a single-purpose union (Sivu) in order to pool maintenance equipment and staff, i.e. two road workers. The NOTRe law (New territorial organization of the Republic) provides for the end of its Sivu. In fact, this new municipality will have one and the same accounting system and no longer three…
