Since January 1, the regulations on the use of meal vouchers have evolved to become stricter. It is no longer possible to purchase non-consumable products directly.
While it was possible to pay for your food shopping at the supermarket using your meal vouchers since the summer of 2022, this is now no longer possible, or at least much less freely. The list has been very clearly restricted.
From now on, only immediately consumable products can be purchased with meal vouchers, still subject to a limit of 25 euros per day excluding Sundays and public holidays.
Non-refrigerated products (excluding drinks) are no longer eligible
Since this new regulation, which requires only immediately consumable foods to be purchased with meal vouchers, it is no longer possible to purchase products that can be stored at room temperature.
So, forget pasta, rice, flour, oil, pastries, all products sold in the grocery section, as well as alcohol. Non-food products are obviously not eligible for this payment method either.
No more ice cream or unprocessed meats and fish
Among refrigerated products, ice creams and sorbets are no longer eligible. This is also the case for unprocessed meats and fish. This is for example the case for ham, bacon, salami, smoked salmon and trout as well as certain sausages.
Sandwiches, mixed salads, prepared meals, yogurts and dairy desserts, non-alcoholic drinks, and even fresh processed fish or cold meats can always be paid for using your meal vouchers.
