SENEGAL-SANTE-LAIDOYER / Mame Abdou Hospital in Tivaouane: the increase in the subsidy among the “most urgent concerns” of the new director – Senegalese Press Agency

Tivaouane, January 4 (APS) – The new director of the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh hospital in Tivaouane (west), Yoro Diagne, indicated, in an interview with the APS, that the increase in the annual subsidy of this health facility is among its most pressing concerns.

“The increase in the subsidy is among the most urgent concerns, with the upgrading of electrical installations and the erection of a large building to house the scattered services,” he said.

Yoro Diagne spoke about the situation of this health establishment, which he has run since the day before the Tivaouane gamou, marking the anniversary of the birth of the prophet of Islam celebrated last November.

The increase in the subsidy will improve the operation of the hospital, which receives 200 million CFA francs annually, as when the structure was classified level 1, he said.

He adds that an increase in the subsidy, to the level of all the level 2 hospitals that it has become today, will allow its 300 employees to “breathe better”.

Level 2 hospitals receive 500 million CFA francs or more, depending on their attendance rate, he notes.

According to Mr. Diagne, the amount of the current subsidy “does not give much room for maneuver” in the management of the hospital, with its large number of specialized doctors.

For the director, the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh hospital in Tivaouane needs a subsidy of 800 million to 1 billion CFA francs.

He also expressed his wish to review the electrical installations, which present a security risk.

“I intend to bring all the electrical installations up to standard, which pose a real problem for us,” said the manager.

The old maternity ward, like the ground floor which housed the delivery room, and the obstetrical unit are no longer functioning, he stressed.

“I had to relocate the delivery room and the recovery room [dans les] premises of the ophthalmologist,” he said.

»The fact that the ground floor no longer works exposes the hospital to the risk of a short circuit, which could occur “at any time”, he warned.

Mr. Diagne says he is “very sensitive” to the “total support” of Caliph Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, whose wife Sokhna Aida Sy offers three daily meals to the sick and their companions, judging the charitable action of this person “phenomenal”. the latter which, on the occasion of Gamou, offers oxen to the hospital, without forgetting equipment such as the new doors that it gave to the hospital.

According to its director, the marabout Serigne Habib Sy also supports the establishment, through his “dahira’ (religious associations), just like Mame Alpha Sy Dabakh, very active in the process of setting up a center of hemodialysis.

He also deplores the “timid action” of extractive companies present in the Tivaouane department, under corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“’All the industries of the department shine by their silence. Only ICS [Industries chimiques du Sénégal] renovated two cabins at a cost of 3 million CFA francs, despite their wealth,” points out Yoro Diagne, who believes that the ideal would be to carry out a total renovation of the hospital.

“We need, according to him, a building that can house surgery, the operating room, intensive care, without forgetting the reception and emergency services, which are no longer up to standard.”

An increase in the subsidy could make it possible to build a large building bringing together all the hospital’s offices, he recommends.
