An octogenarian then a septuagenarian died a few hours apart, Saturday January 4, 2025, in the Poitou-Charentes South area of the A10 located in the territory of the commune of Prahecq, announced the gendarmes of the platoon La Crèche highway: in both cases it was a heart attack, the victims unable to be resuscitated.
The first tragedy occurred mid-morning, around 10:30 a.m. A family of nine members then took a break on the way back from the end-of-year vacation, spent in the south of France: at aboard two different cars, she headed to Quimperlé, in Finistère. The grandfather, aged 82, lost consciousness in the service area, a relative providing him with first aid. In vain.
No medico-legal obstacle
The second death was noted around 3 p.m.: another family was returning from Portugal, heading to Belgium where a 73-year-old woman was planning to be hospitalized. But she also suffered a cardiac arrest. Attempts to bring her back to life, which lasted forty-five minutes, proved unsuccessful.
Each time, in addition to the gendarmerie, firefighters and a medical team from Samu 79 were mobilized. And no forensic obstacles have been established, law enforcement said.
